What you will learn

  • Review and expansion of the 6 cases: Nominative, accusative, instrumental, genitive, locative, and dative. Exercises on the application of the cases in different contexts, e.g. location (on the table – auf dem Tisch) or possession (I don’t have a book – Ich habe kein Buch). Different functions and prepositions combined with the cases. Example sentences: I give my sister a book. (Ich gebe meiner Schwester ein Buch.) Talking about work in the office. (Ich spreche über die Arbeit im Büro.)
  • Static and dynamic prepositions: Understanding prepositions that express movement or static conditions: na, w, do, z, przy. Exercises for differentiation: I’m going to the store. (Ich gehe in den Laden.) vs. I’m in the store. (Ich bin im Laden.)
  • Purpose clauses: Introduction of sentences with “um … zu” or “damit” (so that, in order to, for the purpose of). Examples: I learn Polish to live in Poland. (Ich lerne Polnisch, um in Polen zu leben.) I asked him to make me coffee. (Ich habe ihn gebeten, mir einen Kaffee zu machen.)
  • Talking about movies: Conversations about favorite movies, themes, and personal impressions.
  • Describing one’s own life and preferences: Vocabulary and structures for describing one’s life, interests, and daily experiences.
